Peoples Bank Partners with Legacy Foundation To Provide Scholarships

June 8, 2017

Munster, IN – Peoples Bank announced today that they have partnered with the Legacy Foundation, Lake County’s community foundation, to provide scholarships to three high school graduates or students enrolled in a post-secondary accredited college or university either as a full-time or part-time student.

Three scholarships will be awarded annually: $1,000 each to two students and $500 to one student. This scholarship is designated for tuition fees and book expenses. Applicants must be a resident of Lake or Porter County and reside in a low/moderate income household as identified by HUD standards.

“Peoples Bank understands the important role that higher education plays in continuing to move Northwest Indiana forward. We also recognize that rising costs have put higher education out of reach for many deserving students. We created this scholarship because we are happy to help those students in need so that they can in turn make Northwest Indiana a better place to live and work,” said Benjamin Bochnowski, president & chief executive officer.

A committee formed by the Legacy Foundation will select the winning recipients, the Legacy Foundation will administer the scholarship, and Peoples Bank will fund the scholarships. This year’s recipients received their scholarships at an awards banquet that took place on June 6, 2017.

“We are thrilled to partner with Peoples Bank and distribute scholarships to three deserving students this year,” said Carolyn Saxton, Legacy Foundation president. “At Legacy, we continue to see Peoples Bank strengthen their commitment to the community. This scholarship fund serves as another example of how Peoples invests in the future of Lake County residents.”
